A Picture Book!
A birthday story I wrote for my daughter in law to accompany the stuffed leek toy. Yes, we are silly.
A Leeky Day
Vivacious Leek woke up hungry. “I’ll make a smoothie,” she said to herself, but when she got to the kitchen, the blender dribbled blobs of yogurt everywhere.
As she was cleaning up, her cousin Runyon Onion mentioned that the faucet was dripping. Vivacious sighed and looked up how to fix it.
Her next plan was to take a pleasant bike ride, but it, too, was foiled. When she checked her bike, the rear tire hissed ominously at her and flattened.
“Fine,” Vivacious said. “I’ll relax with a book.” Then Republic Banana glanced at the title and told her the ending. Vivacious managed, somehow, not to peel him and leave him on the floor as a warning to other book-spoilers.
Vivacious ran into her friend Loco Balloon. She started to tell her about how poorly her day was going, but all the bad news seemed to let the air right out of Loco. (Vivacious apologized and Loco got a second wind later, so it turned out okay in the end.)
There was nothing for it. Vivacious headed outside and launched her little glass-bottomed skiff. “Happiness is a leek in a boat,” she said.
